Level: Hourly - $20 an hour

Status: Part-Time

General Functions:

The Hand Over Hand Ministry Director leads the Neurodiverse Ministry within the church’s Kids and Student Ministries. This role provides care and advocacy for families impacted by disabilities to ensure parents can connect with Jesus and community during service, while also shepherding and training volunteers to serve these families effectively. The director collaborates with other departments to ensure EastLake Church is inclusive and sensitive to the needs of neurodiverse families.

Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the Kid’s Pastor – employee must seek authorization for broad scope of tasks.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Volunteer Recruitment: Recruit, process, and train volunteer teams dedicated to supporting the unique needs of neurodiverse kids/students.
  2. Volunteer Training: Equip volunteer leaders in the Kids and Student Ministries on the importance of including neurodiverse individuals and provide training on effective inclusion strategies.
  3. Parental/Family Support: Plan and execute events designed to equip, train, and recharge parents of the Hand Over Hand Ministry.
  4. Sensory Room Development: Develop, maintain, and staff classroom environments tailored to the unique needs of neurodiverse kids/students who require separate spaces during service.
  5. Service Presence: Be present at services to support volunteers, connect with families, and assist with the assimilation of new families into the church community.
  6. Supply Management: Purchase and prepare the necessary elements and supplies for weekend services to ensure all materials are ready and available for effective ministry within budget.
  7. Staff Training and Partnership: Provide training for church staff on neurodiversity and inclusive practices, and partner with various departments to ensure a unified approach to serving neurodiverse families.
  8. Team Support: Participate in all other assignments and events as designated by supervisor(s), contributing to the overall success and integration of the ministry.
  9. Event Assistance: Assist with designated EastLake Kids Ministry events, contributing to, planning, attending, execution, and follow-up activities.
  10. Meeting Participation: Attend designated weekly ministry and staff meetings, when possible, to collaborate with team members and stay informed about church-wide initiatives and updates, with the understanding that exceptions may be made as necessary.
  11. Support Kid’s Ministry Pastor: Assist the Kid’s Ministry Pastor with assigned responsibilities, providing additional support and leadership as needed.

Required Skills:

  1. Strong understanding of neurodiversity and experience working with children and students with diverse needs.
  2. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  3. Ability to educate and train volunteers and staff effectively.
  4. Experience in recruiting, processing, and training volunteers to support various ministry activities. Ability to identify and engage potential volunteers, fostering a sense of community and purpose.
  5. Demonstrated ability to nurture, support, and provide pastoral care for volunteers. Recognizes the importance of volunteer well-being and works to create a positive and encouraging environment for them to serve.
  6. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  7. General Audio/Visual knowledge
  8. CPR/First-Aid Certification preferred.
  9. Two years’ experience of experience in related environment preferred.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Additional duties as assigned.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  1. Mobile - In and out of office to ensure task completion
  2. Overtime hours as required by ministry needs
  3. Church staff is required to abide by the Cultural Expectations (tithe, attendance, conduct, etc.)

  • As a staff person at Eastlake Community Church, I agree to abide by all the provisions of the Employee Handbook.
  • The Church reserves the right, at any time, with or without notice, to alter or change job responsibilities, reassign or transfer job positions, or assign additional job responsibilities.
  • This position is classified by the Church as a part-time paid position and is non-exempt from the overtime provisions, as stated in Employee Handbook.
